About the awards
The MyCleaning Awards are a national celebration of all things Healthcare Cleaning and Domestics.
This is the first time this event has been held and comes off the back of GV Healthcare's success with the MyPorter Awards, an awards many in Facilities Management may be aware of - it was from this success that we starting working with NHSE on an awards for healthcare cleaning.
GV Healthcare, the creators of MyCleaning & MyAudit task management software have seen from working with numerous hospitals how much more those in non-clinical teams are deserving of some praise for the work they do and the role they play in a patients journey whether that's directly or indirectly. Doctors and Nurses quite rightly gain lots of praise and exposure for the great work they do, but without the Cleaners/Domestics, the hospitals would be at high risk of infections - many of which can be life-threatening, especially for already seriously ill patients.
These awards also aim to shine a light and raise the profile of Healthcare Cleaning - many outside (and in some cases even inside) the NHS don't realise how much knowledge and expertise is required for this specialist role in a high risk environment.
The process for the awards is: submission, judging, shortlisting, shortlist announcement and will be concluded at a live awards ceremony, conference and after-party in central London. There are six awards up for grabs - each award category and their descriptions can be found below.
The awards are open to all Healthcare Cleaning teams from across the UK & Ireland.

Domestic of The Year - MyCleaning Award
This award is to recognise true greatness. This award shines a light on healthcare cleaning as a whole through highlighting the actions of a spectacular individual deserving of the highest recognition. Out of all, this is the most prestigious award at this event. Maybe they have shown one of, or many of the factors the judges are looking for across each award category. Are they someone who does great things each and every day - they go that extra mile. Maybe they have risen to the challenge during troubling circumstances? Are they a charity champion? A helpful hero? A goal-getter? Maybe they have suffered loss and battled on through?
Lifetime Achievement Award
This award is to honour someone who has put their life's work into ensuring infections in their hospital are prevented and has showed commitment, dedication, passion and care through their career, having a positive impact on every individual they meet, whether that's a member of staff, a patient or patients family member. They encompass everything that a healthcare cleaner needs to be and more. This award is to celebrate a longstanding member of the team and someone that others look up to and are proud of.
Healthcare Cleaning Team of The Year Award
This award is for the Healthcare Cleaning/Domestics team that have shown extraordinary resilience, teamwork and contribution to their Trust. All cleaning teams have had to adapt and overcome huge difficulties due to the pandemic and other such risks. This award is to shine a light and recognise a team that have excelled and dealt with these adaptations with incredible success. ​This is for a team that go above and beyond and show the spirit that embodies that of true teamwork - everyone puts their all in, together.
Leadership of The Year Award
This award is for outstanding leadership and recognises those managers/supervisors that
lead and guide their teams with understanding, patience, dedication and positive leadership. ​
They make coming to work a real joy for their staff and are a pleasure to work for.
They are fair, show compassion and make those key decisions when needed.
Newcomer of The Year Award
This is an award that recognises an appetite to learn and do well from the moment this person stepped through those hospital doors. As Facilities Teams face a shortfall in staff and a need to bring in 'new blood', this award aims to shine a light on someone who has taken to the role and can be seen as a benchmark for success to encourage others to follow suit - helping to show Healthcare Cleaning as a positive and possible career option.
Auditor of The Year Award - MyAudit Award
This person puts their all into their work, is well respected by others for the difficult role they do and shows respect to their fellow colleagues in the Domestics teams. This person goes above and beyond to ensure their hospital/Trust is adhering to the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness, adopting them early on to guarantee their hospital was at the forefront of the latest requirements in safety.
International Domestic of The Year - MyCleaning Award
This award recognises and celebrates the exceptional contributions of domestic or housekeeping staff in healthcare settings worldwide. These often overlooked individuals play a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, healthcare professionals, and visitors. This award acknowledges their dedication, diligence, and commitment to upholding high standards of hygiene and sanitation within healthcare facilities. It serves as a tribute to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that patients can heal and medical staff can operate in a clean and supportive environment. This award embodies the spirit of excellence in healthcare support services on a global scale.
